Bikini season is upon us. Here at KNG2LA, we're helping you pick a fresh new swimsuit with our top five Fave swimwear designers, coming straight out of Jamaica.
Now, if you're ever in Jamaica when it's summer (which is basically all year round), you want to look your best while running around the resort and/or beach. It's never an easy choice. Especially when there are so many bikini designers and styles to choose from. Not to worry, we are here to narrow your choices and resolve all your bikini anxiety.
Let's dive in!
Jae, one of our younger female designers, has been in the swimwear/resort industry locally for many years. Jae's swimwear is best known for it's intricate detailing, which wonderfully combines different fabrics and textures, creating a style all her own. We saw this on display at the 2015 Collection MODA runway fashion show, where she showcased her SS16 resort/swimwear collection, "Fez Medina." The collection was inspired by the style and feel of Morocco. Check out some of her pieces on her Instagram, and let her know who sent you!
YC Clothing by James Black
James "Jami" Black, designer and owner of YC Clothing, is daring in her style choices and right in line with the latest pop feel. Jami is famously known for her Grace Jones inspired swimsuit "Grace," from her recent capsule collection, "Treasure Beach." In the past, she has been featured at CFW (Caribbean Fashion Week) and stays relevant by continuing to provide custom orders for her customers. Even though Jami has not shown a collection recently, the word around the island is that this will change very soon. We can't wait! To purchase her past designs, get them here; or visit her Instagram page: @yc_clothing86.
WETswim by Denyque Dontre'
International Jamaican pop artist and island sensation Denyque, came out with WETswim three years ago and took over the scene. We have not heard from her (in the swimwear department) in a little while, but her past pieces continue to remain relevant. We hope to see a new collection from her in SS17; especially if she is going to be the one modeling this new collection.
Described as a unique - luxury swimwear brand based in Jamaica, Sokini Swimwear has created the ultimate "Tropigyal." A "Tropigyal" is a girl from the tropics, and since we love Jamaica it's only right this girl is Jamaican. Sokini released its latest collection earlier last month and it hit the island like a tidal wave. The brand is fairly new, yet it continues to grow in popularity. Our favorite pieces from the recent "Tropigyal" collection are the "BeachComber," "Sangria," and the "Kamikaze." All these pieces deliver on the promise of portraying the luxurious island lifestyle. We are pretty much obsessed with the line! This is mainly due to the fact that the names of her pieces are so chic and make you think of getting to the beach immediately. Brand new and based in the UK, COCONAUTICAL is the brain child of Jamaican raised designer Alessandra Belle. Over two years ago, Belle started research and development on a new lifestyle brand, exploring and developing an overall concept for her creation. After researching what her ideal company would look like, Belle found her true calling as the founder and creative director of COCONAUTICAL. The collections they promote are a collaboration of designers that come together under the COCONAUTICAL umbrella; together producing cutting edge swimwear and lifestyle designs. In the future, some of the designers on our list could be included under COCONAUTICAL's model, where creativity is embraced and distributed to women the world over. "True sensuality is really about being empowered, confident and comfortable in your own skin at all times; whether you are covered head to toe or butt naked on a beach," says Belle. We couldn't agree more. The COCONAUTICAL brand is sexy, fresh and head to toe confidence all in one neatly procured marketplace. To order some of these cutting edge pieces visit their website here.
