Inspired by the Jamaican sound clashes of the 1950s and its subsequent global impact on the 80s, 90s, and music of today, the Red Bull Culture Clash has helped keep an ode to the origins of reggae/dancehall alive through sponsored battles. For the past six years, Red Bull Music Academy has toured the continents, and this time is appearing on U.S. soil, along with one of the hottest names in dancehall music, Popcaan. Fresh with an approved US visa, he will make his first US appearance on the Culture Clash stage, August 25th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Last year, at the Red Bull Culture Clash in London, Popcaan, representing for his Mixpak crew, took the trophy home defeating Wiz Khalifa, UKG All Stars, and Wiley's Eskimo Dance. This year he's up against Atlanta's own Mike Will Made-It, WondaGurl, and Tinie Tempah.

In an earlier statement found on DHH, Popcaan said:

“Unruly is ready to bring home the Red Bull Culture Clash trophy, it's going back to yard,” Popcaan told DHH. “We have a big show and a lot of surprises for this event. Clash is our thing, we invented that so we won’t disappoint dancehall.”

The format is, four crews battle and the crowd decides who gets the honor of taking home the Culture Clash trophy. The battle will be hosted by hip hop legend DJ Drama with side commentary from Max Glazer of Federation Sound and producer Sir Foster. Who do you think will win?

Be sure to tune into the live broadcasting on Red Bull Radio 9pm EDT.
