Ishawna is a Jamaican-born dancehall artist who first burst onto the underground scene in 2006 when Bounty Killer saw her perform at a local Jamaica hot spot. She became the first female to be signed to his Alliance crew. She worked with Demarco, releasing hit single For You, and did two tracks with Elephant Man, helping solidify her career and name in the industry.
The proclaimed chameleon of music signed with Downsound Records in 2012 and has since worked with top artists and producers such as Baby G, Jam2 and Don Corleon. She has performed at some of the islands largest stage shows, Sting and Reggae Sumfest, and has worked very hard to keep her status. Many of her recent singles such as Vroom Vroom, Cheerful Giver and Pretty have been given some satellite airplay on XM radio. She has also been featured on MTV.com.
This summer, the artist got in some hot water with her label because she did not show up for the dancehall day of the Sumfest concert, per her contract. Rumor has it she didn't show up, but instead went to film her newest video for her latest single Everybody Needs Someone. The fire track was produced by Grammy-winning producer DJ Frass. The music video was directed by young (21 year old), super talent Jay Parpworth, who has already directed music videos for a long list of multi-platinum selling Jamaican artists such as Safaree, Bounty Killer and Tanto Blacks to name a few.
The music video premiered last week and already has over 50,000 views on YouTube. The video was shot at the waterfalls in beautiful Ocho Rios. Enjoy it here on KingstonToLA.
