He's not yet mainstream but he is steadily making his presence known in the underground dancehall world. Masicka (pronounced mas-ic-ka whose given name is Javaun Fearon) is a young, lyrically gifted dancehall deejay from Portmore St. Catherine. He could also very well be dancehall's breakout artist of the year.
He's been in the game for a few years now, but recently garnered recognition for his hard hitting lyrics and intricate flows. Signed to Genahsyde Records, Masicka's sound is similar to the hardcore styling of '90s dancehall music, influenced by Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton. He takes this dancehall style and blends it perfectly with hip hop break-beats. Masicka earns respect from his dancehall peers for his raw talent and for contributing one of his biggest singles to hit the airwaves, Gas Dem. This single has been on repeat all over the isle since it's release late last year.
So far, 2016 has been a great year for the entertainer. He recently released a mixtape titled Genosyde, another mashup called Beach House with dancehall artist Kranium, a video for his single Hard Ball, and the audio for his newest tune, Win. The hardworking musician has also finished a collaboration with Busta Rhymes, produced by KingstonToLA favorite KickRaux. We are definelty looking forward to the release of that collabo.
Enjoy the video for Hard Ball while taking note of Masicka's rising star power.
