Common, one of today’s most beloved MCs, is currently on a US tour to promote his latest album Nobody’s Smiling, well his fans are. The rapper put it down Thanksgiving eve at the Regency in San Francisco. His fans were out to revel in the light, with a set from recording artist Jay Electronica and the Chi-town rapper. Two super skilled DJs funked it up with some old school jams from Naughty by Nature, House of Pain and Notorious BIG. After performing his old school hits like “The Light” and serenading a young Nicoya to “Come Close”, Common closed it down with a freestyle verse that included a shout out to The Bay’s famous Haight street and the San Francisco Giants.

Before calling it a night, Common, who is known as one of the more conscious performers of our time, stayed true to his mission of upliftment as he addressed the recent events in Ferguson, MO. “We got a long way to go and this change is going to come and it’s starting with you, it’s starting with me. Once we start changing ourselves then we start changing our families and our communities. We gon’ change the world with music. We gotta change the world starting today, starting with ourselves.”

After those powerful words, the rapper finished the night with an emotional tribute to late rapper J Dilla.
