Lolawolf, a band who’s fresh trap beats, blunt lyrics and electro synths are attracting the legit diehard new-music junky, recently dropped a new mix-tape everyfuckinday. Who is Lolawolf? A sexy trio of true blood musicians: Zoe Kravitz, James Levy and Jimmy Giannopoulos. Zoe Kravitz, the 26 year old daughter of musical legend Lenny Kravitz, just wanted to jam with James and Jimmy, members of Reputante. These simple jam sessions transformed the trio into the swaggy band we know today. Zoe, the face of Lolawolf, says her music comes from growing up in the 90s and early 2000s; where Aaliyah, TLC, Timbaland and Missy Elliott were the big faces of R& B/Hip-Hop. Though Zoe’s first career focus isn’t music, it’s actually her acting career. This may be why her music has a carefree feel to it. She creates new music in between her movies as a form of creative release to calm the mind.
This mixtape Everyfuckinday isn’t the first release for the band, as they debuted their first LP “Calm Down” on Innit Recordings, an independent label, in February of 2013. The band has opened for such acts as Warpaint, Lily Allen and Miley Cyrus. They did so all within a month’s time, performing for crowds of over 20,000 people. Despite playing before these large crowds, Lolawolf isn’t aiming to be one of those massive pop bands playing for thousands of fans. They instead aim to be playing smaller, more intimate settings.
The lyrics are real life situations put to music, creating catchy hooks, that turn up the swagger in your attitude. Add this all up, and you have Everyfuckinday. One of our favorite sheek bands, brining the dirty pop for the impure.
