Danielle Shand, better known as Tiana The Dancehall Duchess, has been making a name for herself in the Jamaican music scene since 2009. This year started off with a win at the first ever People's Choice Reggae and Dancehall Awards, where she was awarded the title of Female Dancehall Artist of the Year (2015). Shortly after, Shand debuted the music video for one of the hottest dancehall tracks of the year, Think Bout Me featuring Vybz Kartel.
The Duchess, who hails from St. Mary, burst onto the music scene in 2009 when she laid down the track I Won't, produced by her manager Carlington Wilmot. The song was a social cry against domestic violence and was recorded after news broke of Chris Brown and Rihanna's incident. Shand has never been afraid to discuss "hot button" topics in her music, which is one of the reasons for her popularity. As a female artist in a male dominated business, she has also been outspoken about the wage disparity that she sees in the entertainment industry. She makes it her priority to speak out, helping to pave the way for future female artists.
Her EP, Straight Outta Jamaica, was released in late 2015 to rave reviews. The album includes her hit single, Balance Pon Mi Head. With this recent release, Shand is poised to be front and center in her Gaza Nation family. Keep your eyes and ears open for this rising star!
