Remix is king. In this day and age of information overload, music producers are tasked with keeping the vibes flowing via original song versions; then they have to follow that work up with remix cuts that are just as strong. Successful Brooklyn based DJ / producer Dre Skull, who is best known for his production expertise on Vybz Kartel’s hit album Kingston Story, has stayed close to the rules of the remix. The producer recently dropped his skills on the fresh Blacklight Riddim, with his reworked release of Konshens “Gal Ting” featuring Patoranking.
While most Dancehall heads know Konshens very well, Patoranking is somewhat lesser known. The artiste is an underground Nigerian dancehall celebrity, who is just starting to make a name for himself in the mainstream arena. He is also the grandson of reggae music proliferator Bob Marley. Dre Skull’s remix, featuring the newcomer, sets the stage for solid vibes and good fun at your upcoming Labor day party.
The Blacklight Riddim has been Dre Skull’s summer project, which was inspired by the producer’s trip to Kingston Jamaica, earlier this year. The riddim was recorded in Kingston and mixed in Mixpak’s new Brooklyn studios by King Jammy protege Suku (of Ward 21). The riddim is the perfect collision of Brooklyn and Kingston, which is exactly the type of sound we love bumping in the offices at KingstontoLA.
Take a listen and jam out to Konshens’ lyrical energy and meet Patoranking on the new fall hit “Gal Ting.” #VIBEZ
