Aidonia’s dancehall album “Project Sweat,” is the singer’s latest EP. The new album is full of sounds he crafted specifically for the ladies. The singer wanted to create an album, or as he calls it a “galbum,” that would appeal to women that love to dance. “Project Sweat” accomplishes that with its up tempo dancehall edge and afro-synth riddims.
Aidonia was born Sheldon Lawrence on April 6 1981 in Kingston, Jamaica. He has been a fan of dancehall music for most of his life with his childhood icon being OG dancehall king Bounty Killer. For the past decade he’s been making riddims himself and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, well maybe just to make us slow-wine.
The dancehall artist is head of 4th Generation, a group of dancehall deejays who are under contract with The Alliance, a label founded in 2003 by fellow dancehall artist and Aidonia’s mentor Bounty Killer. With the new 4th Generation sound, audiences can expect different and exciting artists promoting a new movement on the scene. Aidonia is the pioneer of remixing this noble venture with his group, by integrating a kinder more mature outlook on life and love through music.
Aidonia is also an artist with a desire to give back to the Jamaican community. He recently started the ‘One Voice Foundation’ and ‘Sheldon Lawrence Scholarship’ which annually provides five young people with books, uniforms and lunch money for school. The foundation will also grant one student a full scholarship each year. This month, the foundation will build a computer lab for the community, where children can safely study and get up to speed with the latest technology. Aidonia has made his committment to the advancement of Jamaica’s children his number one priority. That’s the way to stay up!
