At KingstontoLA we are usually listening to dancehall, hip hop or some new electronic mash up. So, we were caught by surprise this summer when we could not stop listening to Jah Cure’s most recent venture The Cure. Not to say that we aren’t into or don’t love our roots reggae. Yet, there was something different about this record. Suffice to say, we have not stopped listening to the record since, and have recently resurrected it over the cold LA December as we dream of sun soaked beaches. Signed to VP Records, Jah has been sending up the vibes for years. We are thrilled to see his hard work and auspicious music being recognized by the masses.

The Cure is phenomenal. From jump, Jah draws you in, with the dreamscape he is taking you on, with No Friend of Mine. From there, the album just takes off. Life We Live gives you the positive roots reggae vibes you have been seeking. Middway through the record you’re smacked with Made in California. It is one of those songs that melds every element that Jah experiments with throughout the record, and places those elements perfectly in your lap. The dreamy feel of California, the lovers rock backdrop, and the reggae tempo. From this point forward, you are sold. This is the record that takes every bit of the Jamaicain Isle’s ease and morphs it. Turns it into something tangible. Something you know not only is a seminal moment in the island’s roots reggae revival, but something that is seminal in the music that defines our current time. A time of reflection, a time of celebration, a time to be who we most want to be. Ending with songs Rasta and Stay With Me, the listener has no choice but to stay with Jah for life.

Market Life.

Market Life.

All in all, this is the record that in our opinion, you should not only be listening to as you celebrate and ring in the new year, but the record you should take with you as the best effort of the year. So, walk with Jah, and feel the love throughout.
