The future of Electronic Dance Music is now. The genre stays true to its mission of allowing revelers to let go of inhibitions, while turning all the way up. Dance music’s recent upswing may be due to several talented DJ’s that have recently morphed into iconic global artists.
One up and coming artist is Candace Silva, simply known as SiLVA. Specifically skilled in Deep, Tech and Future House, Silva produces her own genre defining music. Recently, she began a residency as host of Dash Radio’s Future Factory, where she releases a new mix every Tuesday on the Space-Bass channel. Her sets take the listener on a ride, going from an observer to a willing participant in the vibes.
Born and raised in California and now based in LA, SiLVA got more in tune with her music after she began singing and playing the piano. After attending Nocturnal Wonderland for the first time in 2008, she recognized her affinity for dance music. “I fell in love with the baselines, the crashes and several patterns of music going off at once.” SiLVA says. After studying cutting-edge music production at Dub Spot, SiLVA really began living her dream.
Years later, the musician has held her own in a genre that is clearly dominated by men. A member of the seriously bad-ass, female-only, creative collective known as Nap Girls, SiLVA loves that the group unites women who have a strong voice in the music industry. “Women are so quick to compete against each other, Nap Girls does the opposite, they build each other up,” SiLVA says.
With influences such as UK producer Sasha, Queen of Drum and Bass DJ Rap, The Chemical Brothers, Portishead and Green Velvet, SiLVA’s music style is exactly how she defines the genre in her own words. “What I love most about electronic music is that it has no boundaries, there are so many different evolving genres from past and present, SiLVA says, “You can dance or dress however you want without worrying about fitting in, you can be exactly who you are without any apologies.” So true.
Coming up next we’re waiting to check out SiLVA’s self-produced EP Foundations.
