Los Angeles has seen a steady influx of islanders since the early 2000s. Within the past year, island culture has begun to increase in popularity, with more events that cater to the reggae and dancehall generation. Once such event is Boom Yard LA. Hosted at Delicious Pizza, the pizzeria venture of record label Delicious Vinyl, the event features famed resident DJ Delano of Renaissance. DJ Delano is a staple of Jamaican sessions and has been drawing crowds to his parties for years.
Renaissance Sound made a name for themselves in the 90s, as a group of top notch selectors in Jamaica. Their classic sound has become synonymous within the reggae and dancehall movement, and has recently found its wings in The City of Angels.
Boom Yard is hosted on the second Sunday of every month. The authentic island feel is enhanced due to the indoor-outdoor flexibility of the venue. Revelers can enjoy the vibes on the dancefloor, as well as mingle outdoors under the LA sky.
We caught up with DJ Delano to see what his plans are for Boom Yard. "It's an outdoor vibe," said the DJ commenting on the authenticity of the vibes. "Jamaican vibes always strong to me, the reggae movement is bigger than the dancehall movement so I teamed up with Leslie Cooney [of Delicious Vinyl] to get that reggae and dancehall movement to a different level." We have a feeling there is a lot to look forward to from this new LA hot spot.
The next Boom Yard will be on Sunday February 14 at Delicious Pizza: .5419 W Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90016.
